The Cincinnati Enquirer won 20 awards in the annual Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards sponsored by the Cleveland Press Club.

Enquirer staffers collected seven first-place honors including best sports section and best editorial page among Ohio's daily newspapers. The newspaper was runner-up to the Columbus Dispatch for overall general excellence.

The news staff captured the first- and second-place awards in breaking news for its coverage of the 1997 flood and the crash of Comair Flight 3272, respectively.
