ST. BERNARD -- Eighth-grader Lauren Sharrock, 12, and Elmwood Place Elementary sixth-grader Mary Wuebold, 11, might have never met if not for the Shawnee Indian chief Tecumseh.
During the school year, the students -- along with Emily Young, 11, communicated by e-mail to solve clues that led to a mystery person. Theirs was Tecumseh.
The students met for the first time this week at a Tech Camp at St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Junior - Senior High School.
"We wanted to encourage communication between students and staff members in the different school buildings and promote the use of technology and incorporate it into the curriculum," said Cindy Cone, communications coordinator.
Staff from St. Bernard and Elmwood Place elementaries as well as the junior - senior high school wrote the games. There were 17 teams of students.
Each team member received a clue and had to share the information with other team members to find a common theme.
After the students solved four rounds, their answers would lead them to their mystery person.
During the Tech Camp, the students worked on computers to create presentations about the mystery person using the Internet and programs like Hyperstudio.
Some even used digital cameras to help design iron-on transfers on the computer. The T-shirts serve as a keepsake of their experience working together.
For their Tecumseh project, Lauren, Mary and Emily created a time line and multimedia presentation.
"Learning to collaborate and share information electronically is something that will become more important for everyone," Ms. Cone said.
