Williamsburg's school board Friday appealed the court-ordered re- instatement of a gay teacher, Bruce N. Glover.
The Clermont County school district's notice of appeal gave no details; it said only that it covered the verdict, the $71,492 damages and the terms of reinstatement. Reasons are to follow in written briefs and probably in oral arguments sometime in the next year.
Last month, U.S. District Judge Susan J. Dlott said the board denied Mr. Glover a contract because of his sexual orientation, which violated his right to equal protection.
Judge Dlott awarded damages to the Mount Orab resident and told the board to give him a two-year contract. The board objected, saying Mr. Glover was entitled to only a one-year contract.
Mr. Glover's lawyer, Alphonse A. Gerhardstein, said he expected the board to let Mr. Glover teach while the appeal moves through the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.
