County will raise child-care rate

The Hamilton County Human Services Department said Monday that it will pay more to child-care centers and in-home caregivers, the first increase in five years.

The department subsidizes child care for some lower-income families. Starting July 1, for example, the ceiling will increase to $138 a week for infant care, from $126.70 at a center.

MSD writing sewer reimbursement rule

Hamilton County is close to working out a uniform policy on how much to reimburse developers who build oversize sewers at the sewer department's request.

Paul Tomes, acting director of the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD), said he will have a policy for county commissioners on July 15 that is agreeable to the Homebuilders Association of Greater Cincinnati.

The lack of a policy was one factor that led to the resignation of Tom Quinn as the agency's director.

Woman jumps from car; man sought

A Pleasant Ridge woman jumped out of a moving car early Monday in Dayton, Ohio, to escape an ex-boyfriend, Cincinnati police said. Authorities have filed a warrant for his arrest.

Donta Edwards, 24, who has family in Dayton, faces a kidnapping charge.

He allegedly assaulted Melinda Shelton, 23, as she left the Parktown Cafe on Linn Street about 2 a.m. He allegedly forced her into her car and drove to Dayton, where she jumped out.

She was treated for minor injuries. Her car was found abandoned in Dayton.

Anyone with information about Mr. Edwards' whereabouts is asked to call the Cincinnati Police Division's homicide unit at 352-3542 or Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
