Police investigate girl's scalding burns

A 2-year-old College Hill girl is recovering from burn injuries, and Cincinnati police are trying to determine how she was scalded with water.

Leayasha McDonald suffered second-degree burns over 6 percent of her body sometime between June 19 and 23. She was treated at Children's Hospital and Shriners Burns Institute.

It appears that someone poured hot water over her head and down her back, said Steve Ventre, a detective in the police division's personal crimes unit.

The girl is expected to fully recover. She has been released to her guardian, an aunt.

Police are interviewing witnesses and have not yet filed charges.
