HARRISON -- A husband and wife who were getting divorced died late Tuesday in an apparent homicide-suicide in the parking lot of a Bigg's store.

Preliminary investigation pointed to murder-suicide, Harrison Police Sgt. Steve Wilson said. It was not clear early today which person had been the shooter.

Names of the dead were not released, but a family spokesman said the couple, married for 30 years, were in the process of divorcing. The wife had moved to another residence with two teen-age sons. Harrison police were called to the Bigg's on New Haven Road near Interstate 74 about 10:20 p.m. after reports of a shooting.

They found a man and woman shot in a car on the edge of the store parking lot, dozens of yards from the store.

Their cars were parked side-by-side in the lot, Sgt. Wilson said, but both were in one of the cars when they were found.

One person was taken to Franciscan Hospital-Western Hills Campus. The other was apparently dead in the car.

Harrison's last homicide was the death of Amber Garrett in 1991. Jeffrey Wogenstahl of Harrison was sentenced to die for kidnapping and stabbing the 10-year-old to death.
