100,000 should skirt tie-ups
Streets close for concert, festival

Wednesday, July 22, 1998

BY PHILLIP PINA
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Highway planners said Fort Washington Way reconstruction should not hamper festivities for the 100,000 visitors anticipated downtown this weekend.

Big crowds are expected for the annual Coors Light Festival at Cinergy Field and Ujima Cinci-bration along Fifth Street.

Fort Washington Way detours for closed eastbound ramps have been publicized and marked so motorists should be able to maneuver without much problem, said Don Gindling, construction manager of the $146.9 million project.

And the next round of ramp closings, on westbound Fort Washington Way, was put off until next weekend.

Festival organizers mailed Fort Washington Way maps to concert ticket holders.

For Cinci-bration, several streets will be closed and parking restricted downtown from 6 p.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Sunday: Fifth Street, between Race and Broadway streets. Fifth also will close overnight Thursday for set-up, but reopen during the day Friday.

All streets that intersect Fifth between Race and Broadway from Fourth to Sixth streets.

There will be no street parking from Third Street to Seventh Street between Central Avenue and Broadway 6 p.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Sunday.

Shuttles between Cinergy Field and downtown hotels, and from parking lots on Gilbert Avenue to the festival area will cost 25 cents.
