Police arrested two suspects in one of the shootings -- an apparent drive-by near 26th Street and Virginia Avenue in the Latonia neighborhood -- a short time later and found shotgun shells in their car.

Three children who apparently had been playing on a porch were wounded in that incident.

One of the Latonia victims, a 13-year-old boy, was flown by Air Care helicopter to Children's Hospital, where he was later listed in fair condition with shotgun pellet wounds. An 11-year-old boy who was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington was treated and released. A third child was only slightly injured and did not require hospital treatment.

Arrested were Juan Carlos Montezuma, 19, of Covington, and a 17-year-old from Covington. Police later recovered a shotgun they believe was used in the shooting.

At about the same time, approximately 10:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot three times near 10th and Greenup streets. Police said the man was shot in the chest, thigh and abdomen. He was taken to University Hospital in Cincinnati.

A total of five rounds were fired in that shooting, police said. Police recovered a maroon pickup truck on Garrard Street.

John Hopkins and William A. Weathers contributed to this report.
