Elegant lamp posts border the winding driveway that leads to Randall Neuhausser's one-story ranch home on a quiet street in Warren County.

A stone marker embossed with the family name greets guests to the Union Township house that is circled by a wooden fence. So do two frisky German shepherds that live outside in doghouses and bark easily. A sign at the front gate warns guests: "Beware! Vicious attack dogs on premises."

This has been home since 1987 to Mr. Neuhausser, a millionaire, self-employed real-estate developer accused of running a Warren County drug ring that distributed cocaine and marijuana throughout Southwestern Ohio.

Mr. Neuhausser, 44, father of a 13-year-old daughter and twin 9-year-old daughters from his first marriage, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and marijuana. He is being held without bond at the Hamilton County Justice Center.

He will stand trial Sept. 28 with his ex-wife, Sheila Neuhausser, who is charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and marijuana and interstate travel to promote narcotics activity.

The Neuhaussers, who married Feb. 2, 1996, in Negril, Jamaica, and divorced earlier this year, have no children together. Neighbors said they were private.

"We'd wave at each other now and then," said next-door neighbor Robert Bednarczuk, a retired teacher. "He was a distant person, but friendly enough. Seemed he did pretty well."

According to a prenuptial agreement Mr. Neuhausser signed in January 1996 with Sheila, his assets include a strip mall in Loveland; seven single-family homes in Lebanon, Cincinnati and Norwood; a 50 percent stake in an area subdivision; a 20 percent interest in a motorcycle rental shop in Negril, Jamaica; and multiple bank accounts.

In addition, Mr. Neuhausser has six DUI convictions under his belt and a drug-trafficking conviction from 1983. He recently completed a substance-abuse program at the Talbert House in Cincinnati.

Ms. Neuhausser, who is free on bond, has three DUI convictions. She is staying at Mr. Neuhausser's Union Township home, where the divorced couple lived before the indictments.
