The 2-year-old ban of drug and prostitution offenders from Over-the-Rhine should be renewed for two more years so police can better track its impact on crime in the area, Cincinnati officials said this week.

The ban, which became effective Sept. 7, 1996, barred people with drug or prostitution offenses from the neighborhood for 90 days from the date of arrest and one year from the date of conviction.

"The additional time will allow for a more complete analysis of the crime data and the impact of the ordinances on OTR quality of life," states a report by City Safety Director Kent Ryan.
