Here's a list of what's new at Tristate colleges and universities, including start dates, estimated fall enrollment, new programs and major construction projects.
Art Academy of Cincinnati (Aug. 31), enrollment 75.
Central State University (Sept. 8), enrollment 900.
Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary (Aug. 26), enrollment 600. $150,000 in renovations, including redecorated dorms, new exercise and weight room and new soccer field.
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College (Sept. 8), enrollment 5,966. New degrees offered include cemetery management, turf grass management, health and fitness, paramedic technology and integrated massage therapy; certificate programs in computer repair, quality management, early child care and network communications. Gymnasium renovations totaling $650,000 to be completed by November; $700,000 conference center to be completed in spring; $550,000 updated fire alarm system in main building; $851,000 continuing interior renovations.
The College of Mount St. Joseph (Aug. 24). Enrollment figures not yet totaled. New majors in computer science; new program in paralegal studies for nurses; $7.2 million Jean Patrice Harrington Student Center opens Aug. 24; $200,000 women's soccer field opens this fall.
Hebrew Union College (Aug. 31), enrollment 76.
Indiana University (Aug. 31), enrollment 35,000. New degree offering: master's in public accountancy. $28.1 million renovation of Willkie Quadrangle; $12.5 million IU Auditorium renovation; $10 million Myers Hall renovation; $26 million Theatre - Neal-Marshall Education Center; $40 million Graduate Business Building.
Miami University (Aug. 25), enrollment 20,500. $4.1 million Student Development Center; $5.5 million Ogden Dining Hall renovation.
Northern Kentucky University (Aug. 26), enrollment 11,785. Ohio State University (Sept. 23), enrollment 54,818. $105 million Jerome Schottenstein Center to open in late October (houses men's and women's varsity basketball, hockey and entertainment programs); $120 million Max M. Fisher College of Business (first two buildings of six-building complex will open this fall).
Ohio University (Sept. 8), enrollment 27,605. Center for Innovation in Technology for Learning opens this fall; $10.6 million Gordy Hall renovation complete this fall (houses departments and laboratories of Modern Languages and Linguistics and the Ohio Program of Intensive English); $5.8 million renovation of Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium to be complete by fall 1999.
Southwestern College of Business (Oct. 12), enrollment 700. Majors in computer information systems, phlebotomy.
Thomas More College (Aug. 26). Enrollment not yet totaled. $3.5 million student center.
Union Institute (Nov. 2). Enrollment not yet totaled. $1.9 million Gruen Building renovation (houses administrative offices). University of Cincinnati (Sept. 23). Enrollment not yet totaled. $94 million College-Conservatory of Music to be completed by December 1999; $5.5 million Sigma Sigma Commons project will add 64-foot light tower and grassy amphitheater on 3.3 acre park, to be completed this month; $46.1 million Vontz Center for Molecular Studies to be completed by fall 1999; $35 million Hotel Conference Center to be completed by July 1999; $34 million University Center to be completed July 1999.
University of Dayton (Aug. 26), enrollment 6664. $1.1 million student duplexes; $2.9 million Learning-Teaching Center; $8.9 million renovation of business school.
University of Kentucky (Aug. 26), enrollment 24,000.
Wilberforce University (Aug. 19), enrollment 850.
Wright State University (Sept. 16), enrollment 16,500. New degree programs: acute-care nurse practitioner program and master's of accountancy degree. Academic building (houses College of Nursing and Health, Graduate Studies, Research and Sponsored Programs and Administrative Offices) to be complete January 1999.
Xavier University (Aug. 26), enrollment 6,500. Bellarmine Chapel renovation to be complete by end of August; $2.7 million Schmidt Hall renovation (houses president's office and boardroom); $44 million Cintas Center, which will house a 10,000-seat arena, dining hall and conference center, to be complete in spring of 2000.
