Delta rise after 4% fare increase

Saturday, August 15, 1998

Shares of Delta Air Lines rose 93 3/4 cents Friday to close at $115.43 3/4 amid a market sell-off.

Investors rallied behind the Atlanta-based carrier on news that it boosted fares on leisure travel 4 percent. Delta's move to raise prices came a day after AMR Corp.'s American Airlines instituted an identical price increase. Continental Airlines Inc. and US Airways Group Inc. also raised prices Friday.

The new fares apply to most U.S. routes but not to three cities where rival Northwest Airlines Corp. has hubs __ Detroit, St. Paul, Minn., and Memphis, Tenn.
