Private services will be held for Uttamlal "Tom" Shah, a former Cincinnati resident who was among those killed in the Aug. 7 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.

A foreign service officer with the Department of State, Mr. Shah was in Nairobi on a consultation mission when the bombing occurred. He was 37.

A 1978 graduate of St. Xavier High School, Mr. Shah earned a bachelor's degree in music from Berklee College of Music in Boston and a master's and doctorate of arts from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. Mr. Shah, who played trumpet, had traveled with the back-up bands for Red Skelton, Perry Como and Jim Nabors. He worked as a music teacher for a time.
