Ballot issues in eastern Hamilton Co.

Friday, August 21, 1998

Voters in eastern Hamilton County will face these issues in November: Countywide: 2.47-mill levy for mental health services for people who cannot afford to pay. If it passes, taxes on a $100,000 home will rise from $32 a year to $46.

Voters also could create a county charter for the sole purpose of voting yes or no on a Broadway Commons site for baseball.

Columbia Township: One measure will ask voters to approve Sunday sales, a second would replace the fire department levy at 3.2 mills. Anderson Township: A 1-mill road tax would raise $850,000 annually to repair township roads and pave off-road trails. The 10-year levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $30 a year.

Deer Park and Silverton: 6.5-mill levy would raise $870,000 a year to create and operate a joint fire district. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home in Deer Park $120 a year, and in Silverton, $115 annually.

Golf Manor: Six charter amendments to change the way the mayor and city council are elected, among others. Also, renewal of 2-mill operating levy for five years.

Loveland: The school district will ask for a 5.17-mill bond issue to raise $32 million for construction of a two-story building on the middle school campus to house fifth- and sixth-graders, renovations and other purchases. Cost to the owner of a $100,000 home: $158 a year.

Madeira: Minor charter amendments to make a change in civil service regulations, change the name of an office to law director, and more.

Mariemont: Renew tax levy for Marielders Senior Center, 1 mill for five years.

Reading: Earnings tax increase from 1.5 percent to 1.75 percent would pay to beautify Reading Road and plan for attracting new life to the corridor.

Sycamore City Schools: Two levies, one for 5 mills for operating costs, and the second a bond issue of 2.39 mills for 25 years for improvements to school buildings.

Sycamore Township: Ratification of local zoning plan.

Symmes Township: Seven-year, 0.9-mill property tax increase to resurface roads, rebuild sidewalks and establish a fund to match state and federal road repair grants. The levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $24 annually.
