FWW shut overnight on Friday

Friday, August 21, 1998

A reminder to drivers planning to use Fort Washington Way on Friday night or Saturday morning: You can't.

FWW AT GOCINCINNATI

The downtown expressway is closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday. Construction crews will demolish the former Dixie Terminal ramps that carried buses between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

If the work isn't finished then, Fort Washington Way will be closed again from midnight Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday. It is scheduled to close again at 10 p.m. Sunday and reopen at 4 a.m. Monday if needed.

Some alternatives:

  • Southbound Interstate 75 - eastbound Fort Washington Way traffic can exit at Pete Rose Way to go through downtown to Columbia Parkway or Interstate 471. From downtown, motorists will be able to get on Columbia Parkway and I-471 via Pete Rose Way and Levee Way.

  • Northbound Interstate 71 - 75 traffic from Kentucky to I-71 northbound can take I-75 to the Norwood Lateral (Ohio 562) or Interstate 275 to return to I-71.

  • Motorists headed southbound on I-71 through Cincinnati can take I-275 or the Norwood Lateral to I-75. They can also take I-471 southbound to I-275 to return to I-71.

The Eggleston Avenue exit and Reading - Gilbert exit will still be open off I-71 to get into downtown.

The Fifth Street and Seventh Street exits will remain open off I-75.

Discovered alternate routes into downtown that are traffic-free? E-mail Enquirer reporter Tanya Albert at tmalbert@enquirer.com for future stories. Include a day phone number.
