Robbery gang suspect arrested

Sunday, August 30, 1998

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Cincinnati police have arrested another man suspected in a five-month string of violent robberies.

Anthony Jasper, who turns 21 today, was arrested late Friday in the 1000 block of Sycamore Street. Mr. Jasper, of Golf Manor, is charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a July 31 robbery and shooting at the Paddock Road Drive Thru in Bond Hill. Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge David Stockdale set Mr. Jasper's bond at $50,000 and scheduled a Sept. 4 grand jury hearing. Mr. Jasper is one of at least five people suspected in about 30 robberies at area businesses. The men generally worked in pairs and sometimes used violence to overpower clerks.

In the July 31 robbery, a clerk was shot in the arm. The suspected gunman, Aaron Bolden, 17, of Norwood, has a Monday hearing scheduled in Hamilton County Juvenile Court to decide whether he should be bound over and tried in adult court.

He faces charges of receiving stolen property, felonious assault and three counts of aggravated robbery.

Other clerks have been pistol-whipped. Police reached a breakthrough in the case last week, when they arrested a suspect. Since then, four others have been arrested.
