Hot line helps voters to register

Saturday, September 12, 1998

Secretary of State Bob Taft's office is offering a 24-hour voter registration hot line.

To register for the Nov. 3 election, call (800) 753-8683 (VOTE). Ohioans who call and leave their name and address will be sent a mail-in registration form to be completed and sent to Mr. Taft's office or any local board of election.

Mail-in forms must be postmarked by the Oct. 5 voter registration deadline.

To vote, you must be a U.S. citizen and 18 years old by Election Day.

Fisher and football

During a recent visit to the Lockland High School football field, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Lee Fisher recalled his days on the gridiron.

His remarks prompted a playful question from running mate, Michael Coleman.

"What position did you play, anyway?" Mr. Coleman asked. "Er, offensive and defensive end," Mr. Fisher replied. "The fact that I'm here with you suggests how good I was at football."

Courting seniors

Richard Cordray, the Democratic candidate for attorney general, is courting the senior citizen vote with promises of stricter regulation of nursing homes and a new panel to coordinate senior-related activities. Also included is establishment of a Senior Watch Program that would use volunteers to visit senior centers.

The Campaign Notebook is compiled by Enquirer staff and runs Tuesday-Saturday.
