After two months of changing traffic patterns on Fort Washington Way, commuters can finally settle into a routine.
At least until November.
"Everything is pretty much in place," said Don Gindling, the city's Fort Washington Way construction manager. "And that's the way it will be for a while."
Eastbound ramps are closed.
Westbound ramps are closed.
The Walnut Street and Main Street overpasses are closed.
A new Fifth Street ramp from northbound Interstate 71 - 75 is open.
Central Avenue is two-way traffic from 6th street to Pete Rose Way.
A new ramp from southbound Interstate 71 to Eggleston Avenue is open.
A reconfigured Levee Way is open to two-way traffic.
The next change commuters will notice isn't expected until November when the Vine and Race street bridges close, Mr. Gindling said.
Before those bridges close, a temporary bridge will be built from the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge to Third Street, he said.
Construction is on schedule for the $146.9 million project that will narrow the downtown expressway and make it safer.
Noticeable construction started in August, including recycling the 6,000 tons of asphalt of the two-inch overlay of the westbound roadway. Overpass bridges at Main Street and Walnut Street were removed and the Dixie Terminal Transit ramps were knocked down.
