Clinton here on Thursday

Wednesday, September 16, 1998

The Cincinnati Enquirer

ON THURSDAY
The Cincinnati Enquirer will publish Thursday some of the hundreds of responses from readers who were asked to send a message to President Clinton, who is here Thursday for a Democratic fund-raiser.

The Enquirer asked readers what they would say to the president if they shared a limo ride from the airport to Stanley Chesley's house.

AMBERLEY VILLAGE -- President Clinton returns to this small, affluent community Thursday.

A luncheon at the home of Cincinnati lawyer Stanley Chesley is expected to draw 40 or 50 people and raise about $500,000 for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Mr. Chesley, one of Mr. Clinton's biggest supporters, had a similar event in March.

Some who plan to attend emphasize the fund-raiser is for the party, not the president; and while they strongly denounce his actions in the Monica Lewinsky matter, they say his policies have been successful and his apology should be accepted.

"I do not attempt to defend (his) conduct," lawyer and luncheon co-host Richard Lawrence said Tuesday, "but I do support his policies and programs."
