PIQUA, Ohio -- Ohio Gov. George Voinovich, a U.S. Senate candidate who could end up as one of the jurors next year in an impeachment trial, said Tuesday that President Clinton should resign.
"He's lost his ability to lead," the Republican candidate said on a stop on his four-day campaign bus tour of Ohio.
"If I were in his shoes, . . .I would resign rather than put the country through this," the governor said.
If the U.S. House ends up approving articles of impeachment against the president, the successor to retiring U.S. Sen. John Glenn could end up as one of the "jurors" in the president's trial in the Senate.
Mr. Voinovich's Democratic opponent, former Cuyahoga County commissioner Mary Boyle, has said that candidates should be cautious about pre-judging the case against the president.
Ms. Boyle said the president has "made some very serious mistakes" but said the "process should be allowed to go forward."
