A shot, or not?

Who should get a flu shot:
- People 65 and older.
- People with heart disease, diabetes, kidney failure, AIDS, cancer or other chronic diseases that required regular medical visits or hospitalization during the past year.
- People with chronic lung disease (asthma, bronchitis, emphysema). Children and teens on long-term aspirin therapy.
- Residents in long-term care facilities, especially if the facilities house people with chronic health problems.
- Pregnant women who will be in the second or third trimester of pregnancy during peak flu season (November through March).
- Health-care workers, employees of long-term care facilities or anyone in contact with a high-risk person.
Who should NOT get a flu shot (or least talk first with your doctor):
- People who are allergic to eggs.
- People who reacted badly to a previous flu shot.
- People who were ever paralyzed by Guillain-Barre syndrome.
- People who are moderately or severely sick at the time of the shot.
