Police still looking for shooting suspects

Monday, September 28, 1998

Cincinnati police continued to look for two men in the shooting Saturday of an 18-year-old man who remained in fair condition Sunday at University Hospital.

The shooting apparently was drug-related, police said.

The men are both described as black, 16 to 18 years old, 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighing 150 pounds..

The incident, classified as aggravated robbery, occurred at 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 3100 block of McHenry Avenue, Westwood. Police say the victim, Gary Ramsey, 18, was approached by someone offering to sell marijuana.

The two went behind a building, where they were joined by another man, who shot Mr. Ramsey. The first man allegedly stole a gold chain. Shots also were fired at four occupants of a nearby car, but no one was injured.

Cincinnati police are calling an accident late Saturday alcohol-related. Five people were injured.

Police say a 22-year-old man, whose name was not released, was traveling west on Harrison Avenue in Fairmount when he crossed the center line at 11:40 p.m. and struck an oncoming car carrying four people, including a 91-year-old Carthage woman.

The 22-year-old was listed in serious condition at University Hospital, police said.

The four others were: Roy Weinhold, 68, of Irving, Texas, treated at Good Samaritan Hospital and released; Margaret Weinhold, 91, of Carthage, listed in serious condition at Good Samaritan; Marianne Colson, 52, of Carthage, and Janet Weinhold, of Irving, Texas, who were treated at Good Samaritan and released.

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP -- Two men and a woman remained hospitalized Sunday after the Ford Ranger they were riding in flipped in a creek Saturday night near Ohio 125, the Hamilton County sheriff's department said.

The names were not immediately available.

The crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. in woods near the intersection of Ohio 125 and Ohio 32. The 1989 vehicle flipped over and came to rest on its wheels, police said.

The male driver and a male passenger were taken by Air Care to University Hospital, where they were in serious condition. The female passenger was in stable condition at Mercy Hospital Anderson.

Man who fled police sought on warrants

MONTGOMERY -- A man who gave police a false name and fled from a cruiser earlier in the day was still at large Sunday night.

Montgomery police said Joe Cupp, 29, thought to be from the Norwood area, was taken into custody at Pfeiffer Road and Interstate 71 about 11 a.m. Sunday after the van in which he was a passenger was pulled over for having a sticker from another vehicle on the license plate.

Mr. Cupp gave police another man's name, they said, but because that man was wanted, they put him in the cruiser and drove to police headquarters. He fled from the cruiser when the door was opened. Police said Mr. Cupp is also wanted on outstanding robbery and domestic violence warrants from other jurisdictions.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, Gregory Ebersole, 27, of Norwood, and Eric Lyon, 27, of Deer Park, were charged with obstructing justice and displaying fictitious plates.
