Cincinnati-area programs will benefit from the first annual $70,000 penalty payment by Rumpke Sanitary Landfill for violations related to the 1996 landslide at the Colerain Township facility.
Cincinnati Fire Division's environmental crimes unit will get $8,000 to purchase detection - surveillance gear.
Mill Creek Restoration Project will get $10,000 for its environmental education program in schools throughout the watershed. Cedarville, Ohio, received $35,000 to help seal and monitor the closed local landfill.
Adams County health department's environmental health division got $17,000 to fight illegal dumping and clean up existing dumps. Rumpke agreed to five $70,000 payments to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency as part of the settlement. Rumpke also was required to give $100,000 to the Hamilton County Environmental Priorities Project last year and $50,000 to the Hamilton County General Health District board of health.
