HAMILTON -- At least four experienced, high-ranking city employees are vying for the position of city manager.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday -- just hours before the deadline -- four applications had been filed and Mayor Tom Nye didn't expect any more. The mayor said he's confident that city council will be able to pick a good manager from the field of four: Utilities Director Richard Fleming, Public Works Director Mike Samoviski, Planning Director Jim Boerke and Steve Sorrell, current assistant city manager.
"I was very confident all along that we have any number of qualified candidates within the building (City Hall)," Mr. Nye said. Manager Hal Shepherd will retire in April.
Next on the agenda is a "meet-the-candidates night," Mr. Nye said. A panel of 10 community representatives will quiz the prospective city managers at a public meeting in late October or early November.
