WEBN offers Haunted House

Thursday, October 8, 1998

GREEN TOWNSHIP -- Mazes have been reconfigured, scarecrow scenes replaced and frightening theatrics have been added to the WEBN Haunted House now open Thursdays and weekends through October.

The production is in the former Dent Public School at 5963 Harrison Ave. Hours are 8 to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday and 8 to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $5 and $7, respectively.

The Haunted House, sponsored by WEBN, is in its 19th year. To kick off the opening weekend, Gunnar Hansen, Leatherface from the 1974 horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, signed autographs and posed for pictures for a crowd of about 2,000 people.

The Haunted House has more than 20 rooms, said John M. Hughes, volunteer director of support services for the Haunted House, "Our house is a mixture of scare and fright."

Proceeds will be donated to various children's funds. "Over the past 10 to 12 years, we have donated over $1 million to charities," Mr. Hughes said.

Frightening and scary special effects, techniques and scenes are geared toward ages 10 and up.
