LOCKLAND -- A Hamilton County magistrate has determined the village's 1997 firing of veteran police officer Mark Reiber unreasonable and changed it to a 60-day suspension without pay.
Magistrate Richard A. Bernat, in an 11-page decision issued Monday, also ordered that Mr. Reiber be reinstated as a Lockland police officer.
Village officials plan to file an objection with Judge Robert Kraft of Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, village special counsel Terrence M. Donnellon said Thursday.
Mr. Reiber was dismissed by Mayor Jim Brown on Sept. 6, 1997. The mayor made the decision based on charges including conduct unbecoming an officer and violation of the department's sick-leave policy.
