Prints on file help ID dead man

WILLIAMSTOWN, Ky. -- Fingerprints on criminal records helped police identify a 55-year-old white man as the person who was found dead in a Grant County landfill Thursday.

Kentucky State Police are not not releasing the man's name or more information about him until they have contacted his relatives. Employees at Epperson Waste Disposal Inc., 615 Epperson Road, chanced upon the man's decomposing body around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, said Trooper Curtis Finley, public affairs officer for the Dry Ridge Post.

The body was transported to a KSP crime lab in Frankfort, where technicians were able to identify the body by using an automated fingerprint identification system that keeps track of fingerprints on criminal records.

Investigators have said they think the body was hauled to the Grant County landfill in a garbage truck traveling from Lexington, Ky.

Trooper Finley would not comment Friday as to how long the body had been inside the truck, how it got there or the address of the victim.
