Candidates to debate at NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS -- Candidates in Northern Kentucky's 4th District congressional and county judge-executive races are scheduled to debate today at Northern Kentucky University.

The debates begin at noon at NKU's Greaves Concert Hall. Sponsors are The Kentucky Enquirer, InterMedia cable, The Community Recorder Newspapers and the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

Asking questions of the candidates will be a panel of journalists, including political reporters from The Enquirer, Recorder and Louisville Courier-Journal. The candidates will also ask each other questions.

InterMedia News Director Wes Wright will serve as moderator. Congressional candidates Gex "Jay" Williams, R-Verona, and Richwood Democrat Ken Lucas will debate for one hour beginning at noon.

They will be followed by 30-minute debates between judge-executive candidates in the following county races:

Kenton County: Democrat Denny Bowman and Republican Dick Murgatroyd. Campbell County: Democrat Ken Paul and Republican Steve Pendery. Boone County: Democrat Jim Collins and Republican Gary Moore. The debates will not be broadcast live, but will be repeated 14 times on InterMedia cable beginning Sunday.
