Juvenile arrested after fall kills Evanston man

Wednesday, October 14, 1998

BY KEVIN ALDRIDGE
The Cincinnati Enquirer

A Cincinnati teen-ager was charged Tuesday with juvenile delinquency by way of voluntary manslaughter, accused of killing an Evanston man.

Police said the boy, whose name and age were not released, surrendered late Monday night.

He was wanted for questioning about the death of William Finch, 40, of the 1500 block of St. Ledger Place. Mr. Finch died about 9:30 p.m. Monday after, police said, he was thrown from a third-floor balcony in the St. Ledger apartment complex near Gilbert and Woodburn avenues in Evanston.

Police said the boy and Mr. Finch were arguing on the walkway in the rear of the apartment building when the boy threw Mr. Finch over a railing.

Mr. Finch landed head-first on the ground, police said. A Cincinnati Fire Division paramedic unit took him to University Hospital, where he died.

Police said the boy had fled the scene.

Police ask anyone with more information about the case to call the Cincinnati Homicide Unit at 352-3542 or Crime Stoppers at 352-3040. Callers may remain anonymous.
