Lincoln Heights cop charged in ATM theft

Thursday, October 15, 1998

BY MARIE McCAIN
The Cincinnati Enquirer

A veteran police officer was arraigned Wednesday in Hamilton County court on a charge that he took more than $7,000 from an automated teller machine in Kenwood Towne Centre.

Roger Reynolds, 35, is charged with theft. The money was taken in September from an ATM run by his part-time employer, ATM Solutions, in Forest Park. He is a sergeant with the Lincoln Heights Police Department.

He appeared before Municipal Court Judge Nadine Allen and entered a plea of not guilty, according to his lawyer, Clyde Bennett II. Mr. Bennett said Wednesday his client didn't do it. He declined to discuss specifics.

A warrant for Sgt. Reynolds was filed Monday. He turned himself in to Lincoln Heights police Tuesday night.

Judge Allen released Sgt. Reynolds on his own recognizance. He is to return to court in two weeks.

A 17-year veteran of the Lincoln Heights police department, Sgt. Reynolds has no criminal record.

He worked for ATM Solutions when he was off-duty. He was in charge of servicing the ATMs.

Neither ATM Solutions nor police Chief Ernie McCowen would comment Wednesday.
