Two killed changing tire

Tuesday, October 20, 1998

BY

Two men were killed about 3:20 p.m. Monday when they were struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 275 in Erlanger.

The men, whose names were not released Monday pending notification of relatives, were changing a tire on a boat trailer they were towing behind a pickup truck, Erlanger police said.

Police said they were on the berm, but close to traffic.

A West End woman was injured when she jumped from a third-story window while apparently trying to avoid arrest.

As two officers from Hamilton County's fugitive section noticed curtains billowing in an open window, firefighters got a call to rescue a woman who had fallen three stories in the 800 block of Poplar Street in the West End.

Jill Rone, 35, was in fair condition Monday night at University Hospital. When she's released, it will be into police custody.

Missing Avondale girl calls, gets home safely

Jamie Lynn Vinson had no history of skipping school or running away. That's why the 12-year-old's family was so worried when she never came home Saturday night, or Sunday.

The missing Avondale girl finally called home Monday afternoon, and her family picked her up in Over-the-Rhine. Her mother is still trying to piece together what happened.

Cincinnati police identified her as a "critical missing" person, and her picture appeared on the news and on fliers posted across town.

Jamie had gone to a slumber party Friday night with girlfriends in her Avondale neighborhood. On Saturday, she and her friends took the bus to see the 5:30 p.m. showing of Bride of Chucky at Showcase Cinemas in Bond Hill.

She was last seen about 7 p.m. in the cinema parking lot, getting into a car with three young men she met at the movies.

"She was crying and told us to come get her," said her mother, Wanda Vinson. "We're just relieved she's OK."

Lockland man held in girlfriend's shooting

A Lockland man is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in lieu of $100,000 cash bond for allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the head.

Cynthia Jasper, 50, remains in critical condition at University Hospital after an attack Saturday night at the home she shared with Kenneth Wambsgamz.

Mr. Wambsgamz, 59, was arraigned Monday on a felonious assault charge.

Man jailed in rape of 7-month-old boy

A 19-year-old Westwood man charged with raping his girlfriend's 7-month-old baby is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in lieu of $500,000 cash bond.

Shawn Brumfield was baby-sitting at the boy's West End home when the alleged offenses took place. According to court documents, he raped the boy once on Thursday and once on Friday.

Cincinnati police say he called his girlfriend at work after the Friday attack, telling her the baby was sick. The mother went home and took the baby to Children's Hospital, where doctors discovered internal injuries consistent with rape, police said. The baby was in serious condition Monday in the intensive care unit.

Mr. Brumfield, of the 3000 block of McHenry Avenue, also was wanted by police on charges of joyriding and a probation violation. The rape charges against him are first-degree felonies, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday.A grand jury is scheduled to decide by Oct. 28 on indictment.

Driver indicted in wine festival accident

LEBANON -- A Delhi Township man accused of running over two women at the Valley Vineyard Wine Festival in September was indicted Monday by a Warren County grand jury on two counts of aggravated vehicular assault. Kenneth Stinson, 32, of the 5500 block of Cleander Drive allegedly drove his 1998 Honda through two tents where Katie Pierman of Miamiville and Christina Meyers of Springfield Township were asleep at the wine festival campgrounds on Sept. 27.

The 25-year-old women were hospitalized after the incident. Mr. Stinson also faces charges of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, both misdemeanors. He could get 18 months in prison on the aggravated vehicular assault felony.

Honda crunched: Firefighters James Morgan II and Robert Williams examine a Honda after a Winton Road crash Monday. Juralene Howard, 27, of Bettman Drive was being pursued by another vehicle after hitting a car on Dutch Colony Drive. She lost control, hit a pole and rolled four times before coming to a stop. Ms. Howard, who suffered minor injuries, will be cited.
