Two former firefighters admit guilt

Tuesday, October 20, 1998

BY

Two former Miami Township (Hamilton County) firefighters pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from misconduct on the job.

Brothers Kevin and Jason Hughes entered the pleas in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court after prosecutors agreed to drop several other charges against them. Kevin Hughes pleaded guilty to theft and tampering with records while his brother pleaded to theft in office and complicity to commit arson.

Both will be sentenced Nov. 10 by Judge Richard Niehaus.

Another former firefighter, Gregory Evans, pleaded guilty to attempted arson earlier this month and was sentenced Monday to two years probation.

Mr. Evans had been accused of setting fire to an abandoned mobile home.
