Halloween haunts, fall festivals

Thursday, October 22, 1998


October is a month of pumpkins, haunted houses and festivals. Here is a list of fun things to do through Halloween.

HAUNTED HOUSES

Acres of Agony: Ohio 125 (Beechmont Ave.), 2 1/2 miles east of Interstate 275; opens 7 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays through October. Cost: $10, $5 children 12 and under. Information: 943-1666.

St. Rita - 700 WLW Haunted House: St. Rita School for the Deaf, 1720 Glendale-Milford Road, Evendale; 7-10 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays: 7-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through October; children's matinee Saturday and Sunday; music performances 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.; face painting Sunday. The Terror Passageway: Pogo's Hidden Fun Center, 985 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Ohio; 7:30-11 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 31. Proceeds benefit youth center. Cost: $4. Information: (937) 383-3405.

Haunted Hayride and Dungeon: Poff Farms, 6070 Springboro Road, Lebanon. Pumpkin patch and snack bar. For ages 7 and older. Cost: $7 for hayride, $3 for dungeon. 8 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays in October; 8-10 p.m. Sundays. Information: 748-2272.

Haunted Hayride: Chrisholm Historic Farmstead, 2070 Woodsdale Road, south of Trenton; dusk to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.Cost: $3 adults; $1, children 12 and under. Sponsored by Butler County Antique Machinery Club. Information: 779-4799 or 867-1635.

Haunted Woods: Governor Bebb Preserve, Bebb Lane, a left turn off Ohio 126, 9 miles west of Ross; dark until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Spooks, classic horror films, wagon rides and refreshments. Cost: $5; children 5 and under free. Tickets on sale 6-10 p.m. Information: 867-5835.

Psycho Path Haunted Trail: Caesar's Ford Park Amphitheatre, Stringtown Road, 5 miles east of Xenia, Ohio; 8 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays through October; 8-10 p.m. Sundays. Children under 10 must be accompanied by adult. Cost: $6. Information: (937) 376-4358.

Haunted Bowl: Gilmore Lanes, 5595 Dixie Highway, Fairfield. Oct. 30 Haunted Bowl; all-you-can-bowl for $10 from 9 p.m. to midnight. Free shoes for people in costume. Costume and bowling prizes to be awarded. Information: 874-3838.

Mount Healthy Haunted Hall: 7700 Seward Ave. 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday through October; 7:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday. Cost: $4. Information: 729-1974.

Haunted Village Walk: Caesar's Creek Pioneer Village, Caesar Creek State Park, Waynesville; 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Spooky walk, hayrides, refreshments. Cost: walk tickets $4 adults, $2 children under 12; hayride $2. Information: (513) 897-1120.

Dungeons of Delhi: Behind the Thriftway store at Delhi and Anderson Ferry roads, Delhi Township; 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; kids' matinee 5-7 p.m. Sundays through October. Cost: $4 plus one canned good for evening tour; $2 plus one canned good for matinee. Information: 451-7549.

FESTIVALS

Hidden Valley Halloween: Hidden Valley Fruit Farm, 5474 Ohio 48, Lebanon; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Information: (513) 932-1869.

Halloween in Hamilton: Sponsored by Heartland Wrestling Association at National Guard Armory, 300 Symmes Road. Doors open 7 p.m. Oct. 31; bell time 8 p.m. Wrestling, candy for kids, prizes for best costumes. Cost: Adults $9 advance, $10 at door; children 12 and under $5 advance, $6 at door. HAYRIDES AND FALL DECORATIONS:

Brown's Country Farm Market, 11620 Hamilton-Cleves Road, Hamilton; noon to 6 p.m. through Oct. 31. Pumpkin and fall displays, hayrides, cornstalk maze, straw maze, animal display, draft horses, cornstalk sculptures, fruits, vegetables. Cost: $3 for hayrides. Information: 738-0404.

Pumpkin Patch: St. Paul United Methodist Church, East Galbraith and Miami roads, Madeira; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Oct. 31, 1-8 p.m. Sundays. Sale of more than 3,000 pumpkins from Navajo Reservation in New Mexico to benefit tribe and church ministries. Cost: pumpkins range from $1 to $15. Information: 891-8181.

Pick Your Own Pumpkin Hayride: Windmill Farm Market, Ohio 48 and Ohio 73, Springboro. Noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in October. Groups by appointment weekdays.
