Miami tailback Travis Prentice had an ordinary game (127 yards), by his standards. But as usual, he set more records.
The junior from Louisville, Ky., had been averaging more than 153 yards a game to rank sixth nationally. While UC "held" him under that, here is what Prentice did do:
He broke the Mid-American Conference career touchdown record with his first of two TDs Saturday. That gave him 45 TDs, surpassing Central Michigan's Curtis Adams (1981-84).
His 55-yard TD run was the longest run of his career. His previous long was 45.
He moved into third place on Miami's career rushing list with 3,197 yards, behind Deland McCullough (4,368) and George Swarn (4,172).
WE'LL BE BACK: UC sophomore quarterback Deontey Kenner vowed that the Bearcats would rise from the wreckage of 1998.
"Nobody in their right mind could have envisioned this, not after last year's bowl season," he said. "I think our offseason program is going to be more intense, so that we never have a season like this again. We'll have that driving us every day."
MIGHTY MIAMI:
Miami remains the only Division I-A team not to lose a fumble all season. Also, Miami finished 3-0 in non-league games this year, its first perfect record outside the league since 1973.
BAD SIGN:
One of many reasons why UC has struggled: Miami scored on its first possession Saturday, continuing a streak of every 1998 opponent scoring on its first offensive possession vs. UC.
DOWN AND OUT:
UC's eight-game losing streak is the program's longest since a combined 10-game skid over the 1990-91 seasons.
THE SERIES:
Miami now leads its series with UC 55-41-7.
