Pothole People pushing road levy
Anderson Township group spreads word

Monday, October 26, 1998

BY ALLEN HOWARD
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Bruce Brandstetter has a vengeance against potholes.

And his group, Pothole Prevention People, don't want to see any on the roads in Anderson Township.

Brandstetter Mr. Brandstetter's group is pushing to get a 1-mill road levy passed in the November election. The levy would generate $850,000 annually to repair 109 miles of road in the township.

A portion would be spent for bike trails and sidewalks and to wipe out potholes if they dare show.

"I don't know of any now, and we don't want any," Mr. Brandstetter said. "It is important that we get the levy passed and get started on repairing our roads while resurfacing them will repair them. If they deteriorate where we would have to do a complete concrete restructuring to repair them, that could get costly."

Township trustees voted to put the levy on the ballot in August over the objection of some residents who didn't like having to be taxed to pay for road repair.

Nancy Stein of Linderwood Lane accused the trustees of bad budgeting. "They have spent money where they shouldn't have. That is why they need a levy for road repair," she said.

The Pothole Prevention People don't like that kind of talk. They have been spreading the word about the levy at community, PTA and senior citizens group meetings; putting out yard signs; and sending out letters.

"Any time we can get a gathering of more than five people, we go out and talk to them," Mr. Brandstetter said. "We seem to be getting positive support."

Mr. Brandstetter is owner of Brandstetter-Carroll and Associates, downtown, an architectural and engineering firm.
