Reward offered in slaying of Hamilton soldier

Friday, October 30, 1998

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Gov. Don Sundquist on Wednesday authorized a $2,500 reward for information leading to a conviction in the slaying of Fort Campbell soldier Sgt. Laura Cecere.

Sgt. Cecere, formerly of Hamilton, Ohio, was an instructor at the Army's elite Air Assault training center at Fort Campbell, Ky., when she vanished Dec. 6, 1996.

Fort Campbell straddles Kentucky and Tennessee. Sgt. Cecere lived in Oak Grove, Ky., but her pickup truck was found parked at an apartment complex in Clarksville, Tenn.

Her death was established in July 1997 when a package containing her jawbone was mailed to a television station in Hopkinsville, Ky. Mr. Sundquist authorized the reward at the request of District Attorney John Carney Jr. in Clarksville. Anyone with information in the case should contact the attorney general's office at (931) 648-5574.
