After attending the Michigan quarterback camp during the summer, Hamilton's Andy Mignery started thinking Maize and Blue.
On Monday, Mignery, the No. 1 rated prep quarterback in Ohio by some analysts, orally committed to the University of Michigan. "The bottom line is that Michigan has a first-class program in every sport," Mignery said.
During Mignery's two years starting for the Big Blue, he set nine individual and 14 single-season records.
A 6-foot-5, 228-pounder,Mignery completed 95-of-178 passes this season for 1,709 yards and 13 touchdowns, although the Big Blue was a disappointing 6-4. A year earlierMignery led the Big Blue to a 10-0 regular season.
"(Michigan) coach Lloyd Carr gave all of us a lot of his time during the visit," Mignery said. "They showed a lot of respect and made me feel at home."
"Andy displayed great leadership in directing a dominating offense," said Hamilton coach Ed Mignery, Andy's father. "His size and mobility set him apart from the other quarterback prospects.''>
More than 20 schools recruited Mignery, including Ohio State, Michigan State, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue, Tennessee, Illinois, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Duke and Pittsburgh.
Mignery said he wasn't impressed with OSU, and that his second choice was Maryland, which "offered me something I couldn't overlook," Mignery said. "They committed in writing that they wouldn't sign another quarterback for another two years if I signed."
