INDUSTRY NOTES: MEDIA & MARKETING
Cook picks Lohre as ad agency

Wednesday, November 18, 1998

BY JOHN ECKBERG
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Lohre & Associates, a full-service marketing and advertising agency founded in 1938, has been named agency of record for Cook Screen Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of PRAM Filtration Corp. Lohre will place media and produce Cook Screen's advertising, sales brochures, direct mail, Web site and publicity.

Cook Screen provides equipment for filtration and separation applications in chemical and food processing, water wells and wastewater treatment. The company offers products that filter, separate or sift liquids like beer and wine and solids like malt, pulp, glass, plastic, grit, sludge and sugar.

Also this month, Lohre published on CD-ROM and the Internet a 450-page electrical-connectors master catalog by ILSCO, one of Cincinnati's top 100 privately held companies. A search function allows potential customers to locate any part by typing in a keyword at the site at http://www.ilsco.com

Convetion Bureau launches Web site

The Greater Cincinnati Convention & Visitors Bureau heads online this month at www.cincyusa.com to offer interactive reservations for area hotels and attractions. The bureau's "Great Cincinnati Getaways" brings performing arts, sporting events, hotels and other attractions to computer terminals.

The bureau launched the Great Cincinnati Getaways in December 1996 as a telephone-based reservation system that sold hotel rooms and other attractions through its 1-800-CINCYUSA hot line.

During that first year, the system fielded 72,000 calls and sold 1,236 vacation packages worth $283,800. The 1998 effort has already surpassed $350,000. A link from the bureau's Web site takes readers to Cincinnati.com, the online news, advertising and entertainment service presented by The Cincinnati Enquirer and The Cincinnati Post.

Bureau brass think the Internet reservation system will post some big numbers. It "has the potential to substantially increase tourism because 20 percent of the estimated 1 million people who visit the Cincinnati.com Web site each month live outside Greater Cincinnati," said Joan Kaup, the bureau's vice president of tourism.

Internet commerce is expected to grow to account for 20 percent of travel industry revenues, a fourfold increase from current spending levels, said Mark Brumby, manager of the Great Cincinnati Gateways system for Stratis, a Florida-based company that manages the 1-800-CINCYUSA reservations hot line. The Greater Cincinnati Convention & Visitors Bureau is a sales, marketing and service organization.

Fujitec America goes on the Net

Ethos Interactive, a Cincinnati-based interactive communications company, has launched Fujitec America's corporate web site at www.fujitecamerica.com

The Web site targets architects and building owners with detailed product specifications, downloadable drawings and full-screen animations. The Web site allows users to view animations and manipulate technical drawings on screen.

"The new Web site is an invaluable marketing tool for reaching people we've never done business with before," said Steve McGrew, Fujitec's corporate modernization manager.

Ad Cetera:

For the second consecutive year, Curtis Inc., a Cincinnati-based visual communications company, has been recognized as one of the top 100 largest contract production communication companies nationwide. The posting came after 10,500 video productions companies were evaluated by Hope Reports, a Rochester, N.Y., market research company . . . Sive - Young & Rubicam has been awarded two Ruby Awards and three Citations of Excellence from the Ohio Travel Association . . . WWW Internet Solutions Inc. will host Web sites for Hermann's Florist, Faxon Machining, Joe Kidd Dodge, Fan Comm Enterprises Inc. and the Newport Police Department . . . Paradigm Communications Group will produce a national television commercial for Check-N-Go, has created an online training program for GE Aircraft Engines and developed a CD-ROM for NCR's worldwide sales force.
