Former Cincinnatian Tyrone Ballew is to be executed by lethal injection on his 30th birthday Monday at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.
His attorney, Gary Crim of Dayton, said he would request a stay of execution and initiate the federal appeal today.
Mr. Ballew was convicted in the 1990 aggravated murder of Donald Hill of Avondale, who was dragged at gunpoint to a vacant lot in Walnut Hills, beaten with logs and bricks and shot.
Mr. Ballew said Mr. Hill owed him money for drugs.
A Hamilton County Common Pleas jury convicted Mr. Ballew in 1992.
Woman admits luring teen for sex
A former cafeteria worker at a Norwood school admitted Tuesday that she helped lure a 14-year-old girl into a sexual liaison with a friend.
Yolanda Mahon, 42, pleaded guilty to four counts of complicity to corruption of a minor. Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Norbert Nadel sentenced her to five years' probation and a sex offender treatment program.
Originally charged with rape and compelling prostitution, Ms. Mahon accepted the plea deal when prosecutors agreed to drop the more serious charges. In exchange she said she will testify against Rafael Rios Reyes, the man accused of raping the girl in January.
Mr. Reyes, a Norwood man in his early 20s, is still at large.
Butler deputies seize 80 pounds of pot
HAMILTON - Butler County sheriff's deputies seized about 80 pounds of marijuana and arrested two people late Monday, cutting off a "major distribution center" for the illegal drug, Bradley Kraemer, sheriff's office spokesman, said Tuesday.
The arrests of Sheila Hopkins, 37, and Daniel "Jeff" Bell, 40, resulted from a four-month investigation into activities at their home in the 200 block of Eaton Avenue.
Police also seized $1,100, two vehicles and drug paraphernalia. Mr. Bell is charged with five counts of trafficking in marijuana. Ms. Hopkins is charged with felony drug possession.
Part of 3rd Street, Central to be closed
Third Street between John Street and Central Avenue will close overnight tonightand Thursday so workers can demolish and remove former Fort Washington Way structures.
The closings will be from 9 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Thursday and from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.
Detour signs will be in place. Motorists can use Pete Rose Way and Gest Street to get to the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge. Westbound traffic can also use Sixth Street and Ninth Street from Central Avenue.
Also, Central Avenue will be down to two northbound lanes and one southbound lane starting about 9 a.m. today through Nov. 25 so workers can relocate underground utilities for the Fort Washington Way reconstruction.
More lanes may be closed on Central Avenue between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. today. If that is done, flaggers will direct traffic at Central Avenue and Third Street.
Two more removed from wanted list
Two "Tristate's Most Wanted" suspects have been arrested, bringing the total to 593 arrests of the 976 suspects featured in The Cincinnati Enquirer.
William Beyer Jr., 31, of Mount Airy was arrested Monday on charges of escape, parole violations, failure to appear and disorderly conduct.
Daniel Ushery, 21, of Mount Auburn was arrested Monday on escape, disorderly conduct and drug charges.

Family seeks woman missing since Aug.
Dorothy Douglas' family has hired a private investigator in hopes of finding the 43-year-old missing woman.
Ms. Douglas, a Walnut Hills woman, disappeared Aug. 26.
She had been staying over the summer with a friend in Westwood, her family said.
She left without a car, without her clothes and without money. Her food stamp card was last used Sept. 9.

UC student reports she was abducted
University of Cincinnati police are investigating a student's report that she was kidnapped while walking to her dorm early Tuesday.
LaRae Grimes, 19, of Canton, Ohio, told UC police she was grabbed from behind about 12:45 a.m. on Corry Street near Myers Field.
She said two men threw her into the back of a Cadillac and drove her around for more than an hour.
They made sexual remarks to her, she kicked them, and they punched her in the face, she said. She told police her abductors threw her out of the car just before 2 a.m. near the United Dairy Farmers store on Calhoun Street.
She was treated for minor injuries at University Hospital. University of Cincinnati police are looking for a white, four-door Cadillac with a maroon interior and a "Tony the Tiger" stuffed animal in the rear window.
