City looks at new benefits for non-union employees

Cincinnati officials are recommending a new benefits package for their non-union employees.

They are trying to "design a program that would specifically benefit professionals and managers," City Finance Director Timothy Riordan wrote in a report issued Tuesday.

One of the recommendations is to let the city match, one-for-one and up to $400 annually any payment to a deferred compensation program. Another recommendation is to give employees $50,000 term life insurance, the maximum amount.

Another proposal is to eliminate new employees' six-month wait for health insurance, considered a deterrent when recruiting, Mr. Riordan said.
