Vencor down on news of probe

Vencor Inc. suffered another blow Wednesday after the Louisville-based nursing home and long-term care hospital chain disclosed that federal investigators are probing its Medicare billing practices.

The issue closed down 43ó cents at $4.68ó after falling as much as $1.25, or 24 percent.

News of the Department of Justice investigation was revealed in a quarterly filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Department of Health and Human Services said in May it was investigating Vencor, although it wouldn't reveal details.
