Movie crew to shoot here
'In Too Deep' police story set in Cincinnati

A Toronto-based movie will hit town next month to shoot footage for a story set in Cincinnati.

Featured players in the film, In Too Deep, include rapper-actor LL Cool J, Pam Grier, Nia Long and Stanley Tucci.

The starring role of a young undercover policeman broken by the violence and deceit of his secret work is played by Omar Epps, who also stars in the upcoming screen version of The Mod Squad.

Which, if any, of the stars will accompany the film company to town in mid-December could not be determined Friday, nor could the total amount the production is expected to spend.

The Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Film Commission credited executive producer Don Carmody with bringing the production to town. Mr. Carmody co-produced The Mighty, which used the Tristate for exterior shooting last year.

The company will shoot on city streets and on a barge within sight of the Cincinnati skyline, the film commission reported.

In Too Deep is a production of Miramax Films, which also made The Mighty. That film also was shot chiefly in Toronto, though set in Cincinnati.

The film commission said the production will hire an undetermined number of local members and extras.

The movie is a fictionalized version of the life of Jeffrey Coy, an undercover officer for the Boston Housing Authority and the Drug Enforcement Administration who helped bring down a drug kingpin in 1990. His experiences left him isolated, traumatized and addicted. Other cast members include model Veronica Webb, Hill Harper (He Got Game), Jake Weber (Meet Joe Black) and recording artists Jermaine Dupri, Nas and Mya.

In Too Deep is directed by Michael Rymer (Angel Baby) and written by Michael Henry Brown (Dead Presidents) and Paul Aaron. The writers previously collaborated on the script for Laurel Avenue.
