Council can't agree on interim manager

A proposal to hire an interim deputy city manager died Tuesday when Lebanon council members split, 3-3, in their vote.

Councilman Joe McKenzie had proposed the ordinance, in part to the ease the transition to a new city manager. City Manager Richard Hayward announced his resignation Nov. 10.

Mr. Hayward had intended to appointformer Mayor C. Ed Patterson to the interim position. But Councilman Jack Hedges was concerned Mr. Patterson, a developer, did not have the experience needed to help run the city. Councilman Mark Flick and Mayor James Mills also voted against the measure. They support hiring a retired city manager in the interim position.
