A 53-year-old Harrison man was arraigned Saturday on charges stemming from the discovery of three assault rifles, two shotguns and two handguns in lockers at Harrison Self Storage on Nov. 25.
Leroy Clark, of Jacobs Drive, was charged with having weapons while under a disability; he had been previously convicted of a felony.
Ohio law prohibits people who have been convicted of certain types of crimes from possessing firearms, Harrison police said. Officers would not reveal the nature of Mr. Clark's crime, or say why he might have owned or stored the weapons.
In an overnight search beginning Nov. 24, Harrison police opened three self-storage lockers and uncovered a variety of weaponry. In addition to the guns, they found more than 300 rounds of ammunition, a flare launcher, two unarmed World War II-era pineapple grenades, gunpowder and fuses. They also discovered a marijuana pipe.
Mr. Clark's bond was set at $1,000. He was arrested Friday.
The case is still under investigation. Police would not say if they expect to make more arrests.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is assisting in the investigation.
