ANDERSON TOWNSHIP — A fire caused at least $100,000 damage Monday night to a 150-year-old residence on the Williams estate on Ayers Road, Anderson Township Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Craig Best said.

The occupants of the two-story wood-frame building in the 7700 block of Ayers escaped without injury. One firefighter was taken to Anderson Mercy Hospital for treatment.

The fire broke out about 8:40 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire was on the front porch but quickly spread. Firefighters from Anderson and Union townships and Cincinnati battled the blaze, but at one point had to pull back because the building showed danger of collapsing, Assistant Chief Best said.

The home, which is separated from the Williams mansion, is near the Coldstream County Club on Asbury Road.

“It's horrible, just horrible,” said Ayers Road neighbor Laurie Ritze. “I saw flames shooting high into the sky, and it's a half-mile from my house.”
