Sex trial in April for former officer
A former Cincinnati police officer is expected to go to trial in April on charges of using his badge to extort sex from women.
Two years after he was charged with sexual battery and bribery, Patrick Knight got a trial date Wednesday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.
His case had been delayed while defense attorneys and prosecutors battled in appeals court over a ruling by Judge Robert Kraft. The judge had decided that Mr. Knight should get four trials for each of the alleged victims.
The former officer is accused of promising the women he would ignore warrants for their arrest in exchange for sex.
Prosecutors successfully appealed Judge Kraft's ruling to the Ohio 1st District Court of Appeals, which ordered the cases to be tried together.
Defense attorneys then lost an appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court. That court's ruling clears the way for a trial on all charges on April 7.
