New Year's Eve Gala

Saturday, December 26, 1998

BY JENNY CALLISON

LEBANON -- At the New Year's Eve Gala atop Lebanon's Shoe Factory antiques mall, they'll be watching the stars come out.

Not only does the Shoe Factory's loft party space offer a panoramic view of the sky, but shiny gold stars will hang from the ceiling. And, appropriately for this Lebanon Theatre Company event, luminaries of another sort will light up the festivities.

If you go
What: New Year's Through the Years Gala
When: 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31
Where: Shoe Factory Antiques Mall, 120 E. South St., Lebanon
Admission: $30 per person or $50 per couple. Reservations required.
Information: 932-8300 or 683-3482
Thanks to a little theatrical magic, famous entertainers from past eras will return to provide live entertainment and play up the gala theme, "New Year's Through the Years."

Members of the theatre company will portray Carmen Miranda, Betty Boop, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra, said Jill Davis, who handles public relations. "There will be eight other singers performing distinctive songs from the past."

Jay Mills' three-piece combo will accompany the singers. And DJ Doug Cook's recording repertoire features a selection of danceable tunes from the 1920s to the present. Dancing will be continuous, according to Ms. Davis.

"People said they don't want to sit around and listen; they want to be up and doing," she said. "Our performers expect

people to stay on the dance floor while they sing."

The ticket price includes hot hors d'oeuvres, beverages and set-ups. Attendees may bring their own liquor. Coffee and orange juice will be served after midnight. Semi-formal or formal attire is requested.

About half the event proceeds will benefit the Lebanon Theatre Company, a community theater organization now in its fourth year. Funds will support future projects, which include Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers in February.
