Another chapter in their lives

EX-RINGMASTER ON STAGE

Robert Tully went from circus ringmaster to king in just four days.

The Price Hill native, featured in Tempo on March 3, wrapped up a one-year stint as ringmaster for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey on Nov. 8 in St. Louis.

“I'm the one that said, let's leave it at one year,” he says from his home in Mission Viejo, Calif. “In general, it was a great year. We did about 60 towns. More than 400 performances. I loved it. Good people to work for. Made a lot of good friends.”

But his heart, he says, is in acting. “I had a lot of interest in getting back (to Los Angeles). Now I'm able to take some acting classes, take some vocal classes and get better.”

Ultimately the Elder High grad (class of '78) hopes to get into film work.

After his last circus show, he drove to Los Angles, shaved his head (no big deal because he's balding anyway, he notes) and on Nov. 12 opened a dinner theater production of The King and I. He's the king.

The theater owner previously had flown him in for a few rehearsals. And Mr. Tully had played the role back in 1993.

This king might have a long reign. His current engagement runs through Feb. 14. And he's been in contact with several other Los Angeles theaters that will produce the show next year.
