Upbeat outlook sends Delta up $5

Delta Air Lines continued a two-day rally Wednesday, along with other airline stocks, as it gained $5 to close at $59.50.

Investors bid up airline stocks on optimism for increased passenger traffic and a healthy economy, analysts said.

The biggest gainers were Delta and American Airlines parent AMR Corp. AMR gained $4.25 to $68.311/4.

Airlines released upbeat reports in the past few days showing that they increased their passenger counts in December by the same percentage as they added seats. Fuel prices also remain at historic lows.
