UK recruit Bogans suspended for fight
The Associated Press
WASHINGTON DeMatha High School basketball players Keith Bogans and Jason Forte have been suspended 10 games for fighting in the locker room and injuring a school trainer last week, the Washington Post reported.
Stags Coach Morgan Wootten said it was the most serious disciplinary action he has taken in more than 10 years.
Bogans, a 6-foot-4-inch guard, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the University of Kentucky next season. He is averaging 20.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
What started as some good-natured kidding between Keith and Jason, as will happen with kids, deteriorated into a fight, Wootten said. The trainer was there and tried to tell them to stop and back off, and it got a little out of hand.
The fight occurred Dec. 29, after the Stags beat Archbishop Molloy of Queens, N.Y., 65-61 in the Beach Ball Classic semifi nals in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The trainer, Terri Bogle, was knocked into a locker as she tried to separate the players and she suffered a bruised hip. She said Monday she was a little sore, but she believed her injury was an accident.
Wootten and DeMatha Principal John Moylan said the disregard for Bogle and her injury merited the lengthy suspension. Both players were suspended from school and must serve three Saturday detentions.
